The class will meet in Howlett Greenhouse three days a week (MWF, 10:20AM-11:30AM) over the four week period. This hands-on intensive course will introduce students to soilless hydroponic crop production. The course will provide basic information on key components of hydroponics, different systems adopted for different crop species, as well as ideas of implementing them in commercial settings, home gardening as well as school science teaching programs. By the end of this course, students will have a good understanding of the basic concepts of hydroponics, which crops are suitable for hydroponics, and how the systems work. Students will also learn key greenhouse technologies supporting hydroponics, such as ventilation and cooling. Students will also learn basics of plant structure and growth in the context of hydroponic crop production.
